Social Enquiry and Parole Reports

West Dunbartonshire Council Criminal Justice Social Work Services provide reports to courts. Reports include information and advice courts need in deciding the most appropriate way of dealing with offenders. They include information and advice about the feasibility of community based disposals, especially those involving social work supervision such as Probation and Community Services.

Criminal Justice Social Work Services also provide reports regarding the suitability of offenders serving long-term custodial sentences (4 years or more) for release. These reports are considered by the parole board or

a tribunal along with others from other agencies and internal prison reports. They contribute to decisions to release (or not) prisoners on license and under what conditions.

A key feature in all reports is an assessment of risk, particularly the extent and nature of risk of harm to others within the community and of re-offending. These assessments assit in decisions regarding the range of programmes undertaken if an offender receives a probation order is released on parole or similar license.
