Social Care and Health

West Dunbartonshire, in partnership with other agencies, offers a range of services designed to protect and improve the health and social care of all its citizens, but especially the most vulnerable.

Social Work and Health Improvement Services

The Social Work and Health Improvement department offers a wide range of services, including home care for the elderly and support for people with special needs, sensory impairment, learning difficulties or mental health problems. They also have a criminal justice section, dealing with community service and probation.

Social Work and Health Service Plan & Summary 2009-13

The Social Work Service Plan is set for the period of 2009 to 2013. It outlines our priorities, objectives and targets with the context of the Council’s overall strategic and budget framework.  The Plan reflects and is aligned to the priorities and objectives of the Council’s Corporate Plan.  This has resulted in a refocusing of the departmental vision.  Further information is available in the Service Plan or Service Plan Summary

Social Work and Health Complaints Procedures

The National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990 places a duty on local authorities to establish a formal complaints procedure with regard to social work functions.  Furthermore, the Care Commission, which was set up by the Regulation of Care Scotland Act 2001, has a duty to investigate complaints in relation to care services.

This guideline sets out clear responsibilities for social work staff and third parties who are involved in the operation of the Social Work Department’s Complaints Procedure to ensure full compliance with current Legislation.
