The children’s side of the ‘Booked!’ Festival was opened by the superb writer and illustrator, David Lucas. He delivered two fabulous workshops which were attended by children from Jamestown and Highdykes primary schools in Balloch and Ladyton Library respectively. The children, teachers and library staff all became involved in learning about the process of creating a picture book. This included everyone drawing their own weird and wonderful characters and making up a fantastical story about them. The workshops were immensely successful, going down a treat with the kids. One teacher said it was the best workshop she had seen for children.

During the session David also read some of his gorgeous picture books to the class, including the touching, The Robot and the Bluebird and his new story, Cake Girl, which the children were amongst the first to see as it is not published until later this year.

It was an absolute treat for all who attended to get involved in making their own picture book and also to hear his magical fables. We hope to get him back up from London soon to get even more children inspired!
