West Dunbartonshire Council is proud to stage the 100 Pipers Scottish Pipe Band Championships on Saturday 22nd May, in conjunction with the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association. This major event plays host to over 130 of the top pipe bands from the UK and Europe, including representatives from Sweden, Denmark, Holland and particularly from Ireland, making this one of the biggest pipe band events in the world. There are no admission charges for visitors to this magnificent event which celebrates the best of Scottish culture, tradition and spectacle.
With Dumbarton Rock as a dramatic backdrop, this fantastic day of colour, competition, fun and music is the first of this year's championship-ranked piping events and is staged at Levengrove Park commencing at 9.00 a.m. The day includes individual pipe band competitions across the various grades, pipe major competitions, Highland dancing competitions, children's entertainment, fun fairs and a wide variety of other entertainment building up to the finale of the march past of the band. The day concludes with the drama of the announcement of the various winners and the prize giving ceremony, carried out by Championship Chieftan, Provost Denis Agnew.
