Grounds Maintenance - Play Areas

Grounds Maintenance management and maintenance the Councils play areas. We are responsible for the care of 80 play sites containing 364 items of play equipment and associated safety surfacing. The range of equipment and age groups catered for varies from site to site, a number of locations particularly within the main parks contain equipment suitable for all age groups.

Regular monitoring and safety inspections are carried out at each location, equipment, safety surfacing and ancillary items are checked to ensure compliance with current standards.Qualified engineers also conduct an independent annual inspection and risk assessment of all sites.

It is our objective to develop existing sites, improve access levels, and introduce new play areas, which comply with the disability discrimination act. An example of this policy can be seen at Dumbarton Common where one of the first wheelchair friendly roundabouts in the country was installed in July 2005.

We currently have five sites, which have equipment installed, which is suitable for integrated play and access for all. A playground development plan to upgrade sites and equipment in line with current standards has been produced by ground maintenance. The Council has approved this plan and we are currently implementing the improvements on an annual basis subject to funding.

We are unable to upgrade all of our play areas at the same time and would appreciate your comments on the areas you feel are most in need of an upgrade. We will use your views to prioritise our refurbishment.
