Youth United

Sporting Activities for Young Adults with or affected by disabilities

Youth United is a new scheme aimed to give young adults aged 14 to 24 years opportunities to participate in sporting and keep fit activities within the main leisure centres in West Dunbartonshire, the Meadow Centre in Dumbarton, the Play Drome in Clydebank and the Vale of Leven Swimming Pool in Alexandria.

The scheme is similar to the highly successful Shining Stars project that provides supervised sessions for 4 to 13 year olds but offers a free membership and a programme more suited to individuals such as swimming and gym sessions at a discounted rate of only £1.50.

One to one sessions with trained instructors in the gym is also on offer to members. These one to one sessions are ideal for those young adults who require some extra confidence in using the equipment.

As the scheme develops other activities will be included such as swimming lessons, keep fit classes and sports hall activities.

Carers are made most welcome and are not charged but they must remain with the client. A leaflet giving full details of the scheme and an application form can be obtained by calling into any leisure centre or by contacting
