Active Ageing

By becoming more active, more often, we can all gain huge health benefits - these benefits are gained at whatever age we start to exercise.

With this in mind West Dunbartonshire Council offers a number of initiatives for our older citizens to become and remain healthy and active.

Any senior citizen who is resident in West Dunbartonshire is entitled to the following:

  • Free Passport to Leisure card

  • Free Swimming

  • Free Health Suite Use and,

  • Free Indoor Bowling at the Play Drome

Man on Flume

To receive these benefits you must have a Passport card. To get your Passport card you just have to complete an application form, and show proof of age ie bus pass, real passport etc.

It is important to remember that as we get older we should be exercising more, not less. Exercise slows the decline in muscular strength which accelerates as we get older. Even those in their 80's and 90's can regain muscular strength and mobility by taking regular exercise, unfortunately four out of ten people aged over 50 take no exercise at all.

Each of our three main centres have fitness staff who can advise you on the best form of exercise for you, however, we strongly recommend that you speak to your Doctor before engaging in any type of increased activity.
