Passport to Leisure

Passport to Leisure is the discounted access scheme operated by West Dunbartonshire's three main leisure facilities. By joining the scheme, you will be entitled to discounted prices against most of the activities on offer whenever you visit the Meadow Centre (Dumbarton), the Play Drome (Clydebank) or the Vale of Leven Swimming Pool (Alexandria).


How the scheme works

 

The level of discount available is dependent upon your membership category:

Resident concessionary members ............. up to 100% discount
Resident members ......................................... up to 20% discount
Non-resident members .................................. up to 15% discount

Scheme Benefits

 

The West of Scotland has some of the worst health statistics in Europe, particularly for heart disease and cancer. West Dunbartonshire Council, as administrator of the area's public leisure facilities is committed to improving these statistics and peoples lifestyles. We aim to provide opportunities for you to be active and enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

 

Being active can bring many health benefits:

 

  • Reduced risk of coronary heart disease
  • Better control of blood pressure especially in cases of mild hypertension
  • Increased stamina and reserve capacity to cope with extra physical demands
  • Prevention of Osteoporosis (Brittle Bones Disease)
  • Management of your weight, reducing the risk of obesity and related diseases
  • Reduction of stress, enhancing your mood and self esteem

As well as the discounts available, there are a number of benefits for joining the Passport to Leisure scheme. For example, members have the facility to book activities up to 28 days in advance, instead of the usual 14 days.

 

Senior Citizen Passport to Leisure members can obtain free swimming during all public swimming sessions at the Meadow Centre, the Play Drome and the Vale of Leven Swimming Pool.

 

From 1st April 2002 the Council offers free swimming on weekdays for Adult and Juvenile Concessionary Passport to Leisure Members at its three leisure centres, the Meadow Centre, the Play Drome and the Vale of Leven Swimming Pool.

 

Free swimming will be available Monday to Friday at the three centres during public swimming sessions, including period of school holidays. However, the offer excludes classes, lessons, special events (such as Aqua Discos), group or club bookings and parties.

Membership Options

 

Absolutely anyone can apply to be a member. There are five membership categories; family, couples, single adult, senior citizen and juvenile (under 16 years of age). Juveniles who attend any of West Dunbartonshire's Schools are entitled to free membership.

 

From 1st April 2008 to 31st March 2009, prices for annual Passport to Leisure Memberships are:

  • All memberships (except Senior Citizen) are renewed annually
  • Family membership allows up to 4 individuals to join, as long as there are no more than 2 adults
  • Senior Citizen memberships are free for life

Concessionary Membership

 

To qualify as a concessionary member of the Scheme the applicant must be a resident of West Dunbartonshire and also be:

 

  • Registered disabled and in receipt of Disability Living Allowance or Severe Disablement Allowance
  • Registered unemployed
  • In receipt of Invalidity Benefit or Incapacity Benefit
  • In receipt of a Reduced Earnings Allowance
  • In receipt of Income Support or Housing Benefit (with dependants aged under 16 years of age)
  • Full time students in higher or further education (including student nurses)
  • YTS/ET trainees or apprentices

Adult and juvenile applicants must demonstrate proof of residency and status upon application.


How to Join

 

Simply complete a Passport to Leisure application form, take it to one of the leisure centres and pay the appropriate fee. Memberships are valid for one year from the date the application is processed.

 

° This excludes Resident Senior Citizen memberships, which are lifetime memberships.

 

Customers purchasing concessionary memberships must show proof of status when applying. Once your membership application has been processed you will be issued with your own membership card. The card must be presented by you every time your visit a leisure centre. Failure to present your membership card will prevent you from receiving your membership benefits.
