Denny Civic Theatre is located in St. Mary’s way in Dumbarton town centre. This modern, brick built theatre was opened in September 1969. This facility is of limited use as either a theatre, concert hall or conference venue, having fixed, raked seating with a capacity of three hundred and forty seats. The venue stages a variety of music, dance, drama and variety performances staged mainly by local groups and companies.
Adjacent to Dumbarton town centre, the venue is served by a number of bus services and has a limited number of off street parking spaces. The Denny has full disabled access with modern toilet facilities for both able and disabled visitors. The venue has a large and recently refurbished reception area, with box office and bar facilities, which can also be booked for meetings and social activities.
The venue has a 7.6 metre by 6.1 metre flat stage/performance area with proscenium arch, full lighting and sound facilities and a separate stage manager’s/technician’s sound and lighting box where the control equipment is located. The venue has an induction loop hearing system in the main theatre. Backstage there are two dressing rooms that can accommodate fourteen persons, a quick-change room and a makeup room that accommodates six persons. All dressing rooms are accessed by stairs and are therefore not suitable for disabled performers. Amongst the various items of technical equipment the venue also has a grand piano in the main theatre.
