Co-ordination
In accordance with the Civil Contingencies Act, the Council continues to work closely with our partner agencies, through a body known as the Strathclyde Emergencies Co-ordination Group (SECG). This is a multi-agency group committed to making Strathclyde area a safer place by ensuring that we and our partners can respond effectively when incidents do occur.
The purpose of the SECG is to ensure effective delivery of those duties under the Civil Contingencies Act that need to be developed in a multi-agency environment.
The Group operates at three levels:
o Strategic
o Tactical
o Local
Emergency Helplines
The council, as a partner in the Strathclyde Emergencies Co-ordination Group(s) has access to the SECG Helpline. This service is available for use by all partners during major incidents and is linked to the council's own helpline. The CCPU is responsible for ensuring that appropriate staff are trained in the operation and management of both helplines.
West Dunbartonshire Council
During an emergency many agencies will be providing information to the public. Much of this information will be disseminated through the media but as well as speed, co-ordination and accuracy are of the greatest importance.
The council will open an emergency helpline facility to act as a single poing of contact for enquiries and offers of help as part of the response to a major emergency
The helpline may also be opened for lesser emergencies, such as emergency school closures.
Police Casualty Bureau
The Police establish a casualty bureau if an incident involves multiple casualties or results in a disproportionate number of enquiries. Regardless of the location of the incident, all enquiries relating to casualties will be referred to the casualty bureau.
