Delivering on Race Equality in West Dunbartonshire
In 2000 the Race Relations Act was amended and placed a new duty on Scottish Councils to publish a Race Equality Scheme by November 2002. The Race Equality Scheme is intended to show how the Council will meet its general duty to:
- eliminate unlawful racial discrimination
- promote equality of opportunity, and
- promote good relations between people of different racial groups
West Dunbartonshire Council published its first Scheme in 2002 and set out what it intended to do to meet the general duty and the specific duties contained within the Race Equality Scheme (RES).
Each year Councils need to report on progress made and publish a revised action plan, taking into account any progress that has been made.
The Race Equality Scheme has been updated to reflect the work that has taken place to meet the specific duties.
