Your rent is due weekly in advance
- Each Monday you are charged rent for the week ahead
- The Council must receive your rent by each Friday of the charging period to avoid any arrears
- If you prefer to pay fortnightly, four weekly or monthly, payments must be made in advance
- Your rent is charged over 47 weeks, therefore if you wish to pay monthly, your payments should be 47x weekly rent divided by 12
Methods of Payment
- You can pay in cash or by cheque at any of our offices listed below
- You can pay by standing order through your bank. Your Area Housing Office will provide you with a standing order form
- You can pay at your local post office using the swipe card issued to you
- You can pay by post by sending a cheque made payable to âWest Dunbartonshire Councilâ with your rent account number and address written clearly on the reverse
- If you are employed by West Dunbartonshire Council, you can pay by wage mandate. Wage Mandate request forms are available from our Area Housing Offices
Please remember you are responsible for ensuring that your payments reach us on time.
Dealing with Difficulty in Making Payments
We know that people can fall into arrears for various reasons and that this can sometimes be difficult to face up to. If you are having difficulty in paying your rent for whatever reason, you must contact your Area Housing Office immediately. Our trained staff can provide you with advice and assistance in confidence which includes:
- Help in completing housing and council tax benefit claim forms
- Helping to identify other benefits you may be entitled to and are not claiming and arranging assistance with claiming
- Helping with problems of multiple debt
- Making a repayment arrangement which takes account of your financial circumstances
We will assist you as much as we can to deal with your rent arrears, however paying your rent is not a matter of choice it is a legal obligation. If you continue to refuse to pay, we will take Court action to recover the debt.
Note: If you have rent arrears you must continue to make payments during the rent free weeks.
