Community Warden Service

The Community Warden Scheme provides foot patrols in six areas of West Dunbartonshire. They patrol South Drumry/Linnvale, Whitecrook, Dalmuir/Mountblow, Bonhill East, Haldane and Dumbarton West. In addition to our foot patrols we have an out-of-hours mobile warden service which operates across the authority.

These services were introduced and enhanced under the Scottish Executive's funding for such initiatives in areas where they are most needed, ensuring that members of the public can access a full support service whenever they need it.

In June 2006 a Community Wardens Survey was carried out with a total of 2,000 questionnaires randomly sent out to tenants and residents living in the communities in which the Community Wardens Service currently operates. Further information and a summary of the results can be found on the Community Wardens Survey webpage.

What is the role of the Community Warden (foot patrols)?

The community wardens patrol your area and report to the relevant agencies problems of vandalism, anti social behaviour, repairs, and environmental issues. They are also an information source and can assist tenants on a number of issues.

They will get involved with your community and will attend tenants and residents meetings and contribute to community events. The community warden service (foot patrols) operates seven days per week from 3pm - 11pm.

What is role of the Mobile Warden?

The mobile wardens' role is the same as that of those on foot patrol and because of their mobility these officers may be directed to respond instantly to repots of incidents involving anti social behaviour and, if required, acts as a professional witness at court on behalf of tenants.

The service operates across the whole of West Dunbartonshire and residents are encouraged to telephone the service if they are subjected to, or witness, an incidence of anti social behaviour.

The mobile wardens operate five days per week, Thursday - Monday, between 7pm and 3am.

How will you recognise them?

Community wardens have a distinctive uniform of blue jackets, blue sweatshirts and sky blue polo t-shirts, all carrying the West Dunbartonshire Council logo. Officers carry identity cards at all times.

You will see them patrolling on foot in your neighbourhood and also travelling in marked vans.

How can I contact the Community Warden Services?
