A Commitment to the Enviroment
In 1992 the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (the "Earth Summit") took palce in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It highlighted environmental concerns on a global scale and emphasised the role governments and other agencies had to play to look at these concerns.
"Think globally - act locally" was promoted as a principle for agencies all over the world to adopt. To recognise the approach of the new Millennium, the programme for "developing sustainability" was called Local Agenda 21.
