The school warmly recognises not only the rights of parents to be involved in the education of their child but also the key role which parents play in supporting their child’s learning.
Parents are welcome to visit the school for information or to discuss any issues affecting their child. An appointment should be made through the school office to make sure that the appropriate member of staff is available. Your first point of contact is likely to be your child’s Pastoral Care Teacher.
As well as personal contact, a range of information is also published in the course of the session to keep you informed of not only your child’s progress but also matters relating to the wider aspects of school life. The range of contact will include: newsletters, booklets specific to particular year stages, pupil reports, Information Evenings, discussion at Parents’ Evenings, individual correspondence and phone calls, meetings etc.
Parents are encouraged to support their son/daughter. This should include discussing the work being covered in the course of a day, establishing a routine for homework and study, checking your child’s homework diary, revising work etc and encouraging the wearing of the school uniform.
Should you, at any time, have concerns relating to your son/daughter’s progress in Our Lady & St Patrick’s High School, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Separate Parent Evenings are held over the session for each Year Group when members of staff are present to discuss your child’s progress. In addition, Parent Information Evenings are also held to explain important stages eg. Primary-Secondary Transition, Subject Choice at S3 and S5/6. A calendar of these dates is included in the first newsletter of the new session.
Access to Pupil Information. A copy of all reports and official correspondence is held in the pupil’s record folder. This is useful in providing details to support references etc. The information held is available to parents, on request, by contacting the appropriate Year Group Head or your child’s Pastoral Care Teacher.
