In most subjects, from first year to sixth year, the demands of the course will involve exercises at home.
Homework helps pupils to reinforce what is being learned in class as well as developing the skills of independent learning. A proper attitude to self-disciplined study at home is an important factor in achieving academic success.
The amount of homework will vary according to the pupil’s age and choice of subjects.
First and second year pupils should be expected to work up to one hour in the evenings. Middle and Upper School pupils will find that their homework takes longer but that it can be spread over one week. As students move into the Upper School they are expected to adopt a more mature and self reliant approach to study.
Homework takes a variety of forms. It is important for students and parents to realise that reading assignments or practice, eg in music and art, are just as vital as written homework.
Students may also be offered the opportunity to participate in the Schools’ Supported Study Scheme which takes place after school, usually from November to March of each session.
A school homework diary is provided to all students, to help them organise their homework and their revision/study plans. Parents are encouraged to take active interest in their child’s diary and its contents.
