Our Lady and Saint Patrick High's Assessment and Reporting

Our Lady and Saint Patrick's High School's Assessment and Reporting

The assessment of progress is an essential element of good teaching.

Assessment details enable teachers to identify the level of support that a pupil requires as well as a providing information on which to plan future work. A range of assessment techniques are used. In some instances it is diagnostic, enabling teachers to identify areas of difficulty so that individual support may be offered. In other instances it is tied directly to the learning and teaching process and may involve the redrafting of work, leading to a greater degree of competence. Assessment information is also used to confirm the progress being made. In each instance the classroom teacher will adopt "a next step approach" namely by offering advice on how to move forward.

The school recognises the valuable contribution which parents can make to their child’s progress. This assessment information is therefore readily available to parents through evidence of correction in your son/daughter’s jotters etc, the content of school reports and level of discussion at Parents’ Evenings.

Students in S1/2 undertake National tests in English and Mathematics, as part of the 5-14 programme. At the end of S4, S5 and S6 students are presented for Scottish Qualification Authority examinations – Standard Grade, Access, Intermediate levels Higher Grade and Advanced Higher.
