Community Learning & Development Section Vision
"Working in partnership, Community Learning & Development wiill put learning at the heart of communities, deliver better services and continue to improve the quality of life for people living in West Dunbartonshire.
We will do this by
Facilitating youth work services which support all our young people to achieve their full potential to become confident, healthier individuals, effective contributors, responsible citizens and successful learners.
Providing a cycle of lifelong learning in communities and offering routes to enable the development of skills, (including literacy, numeracy and adult learning) to enhance personal, social, family and employment experiences.
Assisting community organisations and individuals to work together to develop and enhance their communities for the better, by building on their existing knowledge and skills."

The Section delivers a range of services and opportunities in line with the Scottish Government National Priorities for CL&D outlined in Working & Learning Together (WALT);
CL&D Section Teams
Adult Learning Services - this team provides community based adult learning opportunities for local people. Courses are designed to meet the needs of local people and individuals and are organised in accessible community venues, run at times, a pace and level which suits the participants.

Community Literacies Services - this team offers a range of community based learning opportunities throughout the area for children, young people and adults including ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learners. The provision includes free help to improve confidence in reading, writing, spelling and using numbers or learning English.

Community Development Services - this team works with groups and individuals in communities providing them with opportunities to build the confidence, understanding and skills to identify local learning needs; participate in local decision making; develop local services.

Youth Services - this team helps young people to achieve greater control over their lives and to make informed choices through participation in a range of interesting and exciting activities. Services include youth outreach, youth clubs, youth forums, youth action groups, Duke of Edinburgh Award Schemes, Youth Achievement and Dynamic Youth Awards The team promotes active citizenship in partnership with schools.

Progress reports
Progress reports are completed by the four sub-teams within the Community Learning & Development Section on a regular basis. These reports outline the team's ongoing work commitments and describe particular projects being undertaken.
The CL&D Progress reports are made available to provide some background to the work and responsibilities of the Section and provide a better context for the following CL&D work.

Setting the Standard in West Dunbartonshire
West Dunbartonshire Council has a number of corporate service standards to ensure we deliver high quality services to you. Each of our individual services also has standards relevant to the services they deliver.
