Progress in developing the Literacies Community concept was initially slow to gather momentum, but several meetings have been held with local people, partners and the Clydebank East Community Council to discuss developing a Local Community Plan. One outcome from these meetings has been that local parents identified the need to establish a holiday Playscheme provision.
A number of meetings supported by both the Community Literacies Team and the local Building Better Futures Team have taken place with the aim of setting up a Whitecrook Playscheme from Easter 2008. The Playscheme parents decided to join forces with the Voices Group who are local parents interested in family learning. Together they ran some fun workshops during the schools October week holiday. The workshops included dance, kitemaking, sports, comic making and circus skills.
The Voices Group, who regularly meet at Whitecrook Primary School on a Tuesday evening, also wanted to start a Monday Group to accommodate the demand from parents. The
