Active Schools Netball

Netball
Widening opportunities for women and girls to take part and compete in sport is a key priority for sportscotland and a fundamental area for Active Schools to develop.  In targeting and encouraging more girls to get involved in sport and physical activity, sports like netball are making a valuable contribution to girls activity levels.

Netball is widely taught within the primary school sector, as a curricular and extra–curricular activity. Mini netball was devised by Netball Scotland to help teachers introduce the game of netball into the school environment and is specially designed to align the game to meet with the psychological and physical capabilities of young girls and boys.

Within West Dunbartonshire there are many opportunities for School aged children to get involved in Netball.  Participation can be through After School Clubs and Lunch time clubs that are held in many of our schools.  Each primary school also has the opportunity to take part in termly area Netball festival, where the emphasis is not on competition, but on basic skill development and having fun.

Through linking with Community Club development there is an opportunity for anyone interested in leading a Netball Club to undertake the necessary coaching qualifications, this training is presently being utilised by school staff and parent volunteers.
