Hockey is an integral part of the PE curriculum in many of West Dunbartonshire’s primary schools. Active Schools have assisted many schools by purchasing suitable equipment as well as providing instruction, other resources and information to teachers - including CPD opportunities. Likewise, we support a number of after-school hockey clubs which take place in schools through regular communication and visits.
Active Schools work closely with the Hockey Development Officer to improve opportunities for children and young people to experience hockey. Coordinators relationships with schools allow them to encourage and increase participation levels in festivals and after school clubs. This partnership has now established an annual primary hockey festival, which in addition to many smaller festivals, allow schools to participate and compete together. Two teams are then selected from this festival to attend the National Primary Hockey Festival at the National Hockey Academy.
