Active Schools Festivals

Throughout the year Active Schools organise and assist Sports Development in running various sport and activity festivals for primary and secondary pupils. These festivals bring a number of schools together to participate and compete in a number of different sports including Netball, Athletics, Hockey, Table Tennis and Badminton.

Transition festivals are run for all primary 7 pupils in a cluster to introduce them to the high school they will be joining after their summer break.

Secondary PE staff, Active Schools and pupils completing their Junior Sports Leader awards manage these festivals that often have hundreds of attending primary 7’s. These festivals take the form of a multi-activity day, offering different sports and fun physical activities for the pupils to take part in.

Sport specific festivals give pupils the chance to meet pupils from other schools and to compete against them in a fun, safe and organised environment. In the run up to these festivals, Active Schools assist and encourage schools offer extra training tailored for the event, thus increasing opportunities for pupils to experience new sports and activities. Active School’s festivals continue to grow in size, number and popularity and will hopefully continue to do so in the near future.
