West Dunbartonshire’s new homelessness strategy will aim to end the plight of homelessness in the area by 2013.

Executive Director of Housing, Environment and Economic Development Elaine Melrose described the strategy as “bold and ambitious” at its launch last month.

Over 50 delegates attended the Council’s inaugural Homelessness Conference in Clydebank to hear how the new strategy will tackle the high incidence of homelessness in West Dunbartonshire and focus on prevention.

The five year strategy for will replace the plan for 2003-2006, which saw West Dunbartonshire Council eliminate the use of B&B accommodation for homeless households. The Council was the first local authority in Scotland to achieve this.
