A month of eco-events and promotions, 15 May - 18 June 2010
Tuesday 11th May 2010
West Dunbartonshire Council is proud to launch The Green Dream 2010 – the third annual month-long programme of eco-events and promotions, to encourage a greener lifestyle amongst local residents.
There is so much on between 15th May - 18th June, so the whole family can get involved in becoming greener and discovering the wildlife and natural beauty on our doorstep.
You can get involved in activities such as wildflower planting at Brucehill, helping to plant a forest at Cochno Hill, health walks at the Saltings local nature reserve and Clydebank Canal, or seeking out frogs and toads by torchlight.
During the month, West Dunbartonshire’s Environmental Health staff will be out and about with the aim of improving local air quality by highlighting the issues of vehicle idling, and checking vehicles at the roadside to ensure they are not exceeding emissions limits.
A recycling roadshow will also visit Loch Lomond Shores and Clyde Shopping Centre to answer any questions on what you can and cannot recycle in your blue and brown bins.
National Walk to School Week and Scottish Biodiversity Week also fall during the Green Dream month. The Green Dream will finish off with an Awards Ceremony on 18 June to celebrate eco-achievements in West Dunbartonshire’s schools and early years centres.
Councillor Craig McLaughlin, West Dunbartonshire Council’s Convener for Corporate Services said: "We’re really hoping that as many local people as possible will get into the Green Dream spirit and get involved in one of the many events happening over the next five weeks. There are a considerable amount of planned events designed to raise the profile of environmental issues. We are building on the success of last year’s programme by expanding on the type and variety of events being staged. It is critical that we get the environmental message out and as many people as possible get involved.”
