Extension to parking at Drumry Station

Thursday 12th August 2010

West Dunbartonshire Council is set to extend and improve the existing car park at Drumry Station, Clydebank, to become a Park and Ride facility.

The extension works were granted planning permission in June and received approval from the Council’s Tendering Committee approval on the 4 August. Work will begin on site on Monday 16 August and will continue for 10 weeks.

The works will increase the off-street parking provision from approximately 14 spaces to 52 spaces, including three dedicated disabled spaces. Works also include the provision of new paths, upgraded existing paths, upgraded lighting and the installation of CCTV.

Councillor Jim McElhill, the council’s spokesperson for Environmental Services and Economic Development, said:  “This improved car parking facility will be a bonus for rail travellers, and we would hope that it will encourage more local people to use the train. It will also address the existing overspill of cars onto local streets, and the lack of disabled parking facilities at Drumry Station.”

The car park will be closed while the works are undertaken. Commuters using Drumry Station are advised that limited alternative parking is available to the south of the station on Kirkwood Avenue.
