Cllr McColl continued: “This is not only a great achievement for our learners but also for our staff within our Community Learning and Development team who have worked hard to ensure everyone reached their goal of completing their course.”
Learners completed a wide range of learning options from taster sessions to certificated courses and had access to support and guidance from CL&D staff to help them to consider their goals and options for progression.
Many learners are returning to learning after a long time and for many these are the first qualifications they have ever achieved.
Staff from CL&D spoke to people who attended the presentation night about their learning. Learners said they enjoyed getting out and meeting new people, getting information about other learning opportunities that are available to them and having their achievements recognised.
Quotes from learners about their courses include:
“I liked meeting new people and getting confidence in front of people I don’t know.”
“It took away the fear I had of computers. I live alone and have no-one to show me what to do when I make mistakes with the computer. I am so glad I came to Digital Friends.”
“I can use the certificate to help me get to college.”
“I met people from different backgrounds and nationalities. When we socialise we all speak English.”
One learner said “I liked having my sister there to see me getting my certificate”.
Another learner said she had enjoyed it and had never been to a presentation before.
Some quotes:
“The presentation event was a fantastic night to mark our achievements - thanks”.
“Inspired – to see people of various ages with various abilities achieving is inspiring”
“I liked the speeches and getting my photo taken”.
“Good night – thanks to all the CL&D team”.
