Midnight League a big winner

Tuesday 16th March 2010

An evening football league for 12-18 year-olds across West Dunbartonshire has been a massive success, attracting around 450 young people over a 6-week period.

The Bank of Scotland Midnight League drew to a close on Friday night (12th March). Boys and girls from all across West Dunbartonshire came together every Friday evening to enjoy a free game of five or seven a side football at St Peter the Apostle High School in Clydebank.

Each week, prizes were awarded to young people based on Fair Play. Sports Development coach Paul Dolan said:  “Young people have been very enthusiastic about participating and numbers have been consistently high with an average of 70 young people attending every week.”

Councillor Jim Finn, who sits on the West Dunbartonshire Sports Council, said: “The Midnight League was a multi agency community event that aimed to promote healthy living, social interaction and positive choices for young people, and to reduce anti social behaviour by providing alternatives for young people that reduce incidences of youth disorder.

“The young footballers turned out in their droves every week, which really demonstrates the need for this type of activity.”
