Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games Hand Over Ceremony

On the 14 October 2010, at the Closing Ceremony of the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow and Scotland will make the first public statement to the Commonwealth and the world by presenting a Handover Ceremony. This event will set the scene for the four years leading up to the delivery of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. 

 

The Handover Ceremony will mark the start of an amazing journey for athletes, citizens and communities of Scotland and the Commonwealth towards the biggest sporting event Scotland has hosted! The performance will involve a mass choreographed dance routine with a cast of approximately 400 amateur volunteers from all across Scotland and from all walks of life. The performance will be beamed live across the Commonwealth to an estimated of 1 billion people.

Funded by Glasgow 2014 Community Engagement Fund, 3 local people within West Dunbartonshire have the opportunity of a lifetime to take part in this ceremony, could it be YOU? 

 

What type of people are we looking for?

 

  • You should be living in West Dunbartonshire and regularly make a contribution to your local community through volunteering active cultural or sports activities.

  • You must be 18 years or over on 10 June 2010

  • You must have a good basic level of physical fitness, be self-motivated and enthusiastic to learn.

  • You must be willing to commit to the rehearsal schedule and the Handover Ceremony and have all necessary travel documentation up to date!

 

The full criteria is shown in the application form, however it should be noted that the places are for people who would not normally get the chance to participate in an event of this nature. You will be required to provide two references who will verify the content of your nomination. 

 

You will be an ambassador for West Dunbartonshire whilst in New Delhi; and be part of a network of people from across Scotland promoting the games and developing an understanding and profile in your local area for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.


Deadline: All applications must be received by: Wednesday 21st April 2010 at NOON.

 

All applications that fit the criteria will be placed into a draw on Wednesday 21st April with the successful individuals being informed no later than Thursday 22nd April 2010.

 

The successful applicants are required to complete the full application pack, which is provided by the Glasgow 2014 Handover team, by Friday 23rd April 2010.
