Louise Welsh visits Dumbarton Library

Tuesday 19th January 2010

Dumbarton Library’s Centenary Year kicked off in great style with a visit to the library from best-selling author, Louise Welsh, on January 13th. The event was run by the Lennox Literary Society, but was ‘gifted’ to the library’s centenary programme as an acknowledgement of all the support the society has received from the library service over the past few years.

Louise, whose 2002 novel, ‘The Cutting Room’,  was one of the most sensational debuts ever by a Scottish writer, read selected pieces from her forthcoming novel, ‘Naming the Bones’, and chatted with the audience about the craft of writing in general. Afterwards, there was a lively question and answer session, during which the author fielded a wide variety of questions, giving serious consideration to each one.

With an engaging author allied to a healthy and enthusiastic audience, 2010 could scarcely have got off to a better start.
