West Dunbartonshire Council Adult Mental Health Services are an integrated service with the West Dunbartonshire Community Health Partnership.
A Section Head accountable jointly to the Director of Social Work and the Director of the Community Health Partnership manages the Adult Mental Health Service.
Strategic planning and development support is provided by a Policy / Training Officer who also co-ordinates suicide prevention activities with the assistance of a Choose Life Development Worker. This post also supports consumer involvement with the assistance of a Development Worker.
Teams of social workers work together with health colleagues in community mental health teams in Clydebank at the Goldenhill Resource Centre and in Dumbarton at the Riverview Resource Centre providing assessment care management and support services to mentally ill people in the community.
In addition the local authority provides a Mental Health Officer Service
This is a separate service from the Community Mental Health Team. Mental Health Officers are specially trained Social Workers appointed by the Local Authority to carry out specific duties in relation to the Mental Heath (Care & Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 and the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000.
The Acquired Brain Injury Team supports adults over 16years of age and their carers where acquired brain injury is the primary issue affecting their quality of life.
The Council also commissions community support services from the voluntary sector.
Organisations such as the Scottish Association of Mental Health, the Richmond Fellowship for Scotland, The Mungo Foundation and Stepping Stones, a local community organisation governed by a board of service users and carers.
All of our services aim to support Carers in their caring role. We work in partnership with Carers and the Carers Centre to develop practical and innovative ways to support cares.
There is an active service user and carer sector that is involved in strategic planning, consultations and associated working groups.
