Through consultation events undertaken by Clydebank re-built it was generally perceived that the canopy over Sylvania Way pedestrian bridge did not reflect local aspirations for the future of Clydebank, its town centre or the canal corridor. Following a national architectural competition, Glasgow based RMJM architects were appointed in January 2007 to deliver a "Swan in Flight" canopy design. Following open contractor tendering, Yoker based firm, Gray & Dick Ltd were appointed. Works to assemble the new structure on site and to remove the old canopy began in February 2008 and were completed at the end of May 2008.
