Town Centre Regeneration
A key priority of West Dunbartonshire Council is to regenerate its own town centres. Town centre action plans are in place to guide progress in Alexandria and Dumbarton and Clydebank rebuilt has been established to regenerate Clydebank, including its town centre.
Alexandria Town Centre
Alexandria town centre is located a few miles south of Loch Lomond and to the west of the River Leven. It operates as a local centre for the surrounding Vale of Leven population (25000). Alexandria Heart of the Vale Town Centre Action Plan was produced in 2004. This identified a number of projects required to regenerate the town centre over a ten year period.

Clydebank Town Centre
Clydebank has the largest town centre in West Dunbartonshire and serves a population of 47,000. It has a modern covered shopping centre located on either side of the Forth and Clyde Canal. In close proximity is the waterfront area where former industrial sites are the focus of major redevelopment proposals. Guidelines have been prepared to assist with the redevelopment of the town centre and waterfront areas of Clydebank. The Council is working with its partners, particularly Clydebank Rebuilt, to take forward a number of projects.

Dumbarton Town Centre
Dumbarton town centre has a population of 21,000 and is located on the banks of the River Leven, overlooking Dumbarton Rock and Castle. Rediscovering Dumbarton, Dumbarton Town Centre Action Plan, was produced in January 2001, by West Dunbartonshire Council, in partnership with the former Scottish Enterprise Dunbartonshire. Since then a number of physical projects have been developed to regenerate the town centre, involving improvements to the High Street, public spaces, car parks, listed buildings and shopfronts. Associated strategies have also been produced including a town centre masterplan, design guidance and signage, retailing, flooding and traffic management studies.
