The new website, believed to be a UK and International first, in terms of scope and scale will significantly transform the profile of local government as a dynamic career option. The recruitment portal can carry over 30,000 vacancies in a huge variety of careers from clerical to sports and leisure, management and teaching.

Strategic Environmental Assessment Screening
Determination: 11 November 2008

The Environmental Assessment (Scotland) Act 2005 (“the Act”) introduced a process for the identification and assessment of plans, policies and strategies (PPS) produced by public sector bodies.   The Act requires these bodies to determine whether PPS should be subject to a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA).

Financial or budget plans and programmes are generally exempt from SEA.

From 2007 local authorities were required to submit to the Scottish Government their first Strategic Housing Investment Plans (SHIPs) as part of the Strategic Housing Investment Framework (SHIF).

Free Independent Legal Advice For Staff

Following the decision to make compensation payments to female manual workers employed in Catering, Cleaning, Home Care and Bus Escorts, West Dunbartonshire Council is now progressing with the preparation of individual compromise agreements and has begun making arrangements to source independent legal advice for those employees.

The Council has pledged its commitment is to ensure that each member of staff can carefully consider the Council’s offer prior to entering into a compromise agreement. Individuals in the Equal Pay work group will be provided with details of the payment that they will receive and will be offered free legal advice from independent firms of solicitors, including those who presently represent the GMB Trade Union.

Employees will be provided with this information in advance of road shows which will be scheduled towards the end of October. This will allow compensation payments to be made to staff before Christmas.

A council spokeswoman said: “We are confident that this is the best deal for those staff who are in a position of potential inequality and would thank staff for their patience and cooperation while this important exercise proceeds.”

Single Status Update

This circular will cover many of the general points raised following the briefing sessions on the decision by Council to implement the Single Status Agreement.

Digital TV

Digital Tick

Are you prepared for the digital switchover in 2010/11? If you have not converted your TV to digital by that date you will not be able to continue watching your favourite programmes.

It is very unlikely that you will need to replace your existing TV unless you want to but you will need a digital box (via aerial, satellite dish or cable). However if you are thinking of upgrading your current set consider getting a TV with a digital box built in (a "digital TV") and look for the 'digital tick' logo .

And don't forget your video recorder. If you use a video (VCR) or a DVD recorder for recording you will still be able to record and play back tapes/DVDs as before. But, if you want to record one digital channel while you are watching another, you'll need a digital TV recorder with one or more digital tuners (Freeview Playback, Sky+ or ntl:Telewest TV Drive).
