N.B. You must book time on a computer before you can use one, by doing the following:-
- First you must join the library and receive your library card.
- You must provide the library with a four-digit PIN that you will use to log on to the computers. Each time you log on, you will be asked to acknowledge you have read and agree to the acceptable use policy (see below).
- Once you are a member of the library, and have a library card, you may book by telephone, or by arriving in person. Please make sure you have your library card to hand when you are making your computer booking.
- Booking is for 1 hour periods.
- Please try to plan and time a piece of work (including any printing time) so that it can be completed within the allotted 1 hour period.
- If at the end of your 1 hour period you want to have more time, you must book again at the counter, and if a computer is free, a second hour can commence immediately. Note that this might not be on the same machine.
West Dunbartonshire Council Public use of the Internet - Policy
Statement
West Dunbartonshire Libraries, Arts and Museums and Community Education Services provide public access to the Internet in keeping with their role as sources of information, intellectual development and enrichment for the community.
West Dunbartonshire Council has no control over the information accessed and cannot be held responsible for the content or quality of the information retrieved.
Transmission of any material in violation of United Kingdom or European Community law is prohibited. This includes but is not limited to copyright material, abusive or obscene material, pornographic material or material protected by trade secret legislation.
As is the case with all other library and community education resources, responsibility for children's use of the internet lies with the child's parent or legal guardian.
Services Available
Unacceptable Use
Users must agree not to:

Use the network to make or attempt to make unauthorised entry to other computational, informational or communication services or resources.

Distribute unsolicited spam or junk e-mail.

Threaten an individual's privacy or reputation either through libel or the passing of unauthorised personal data.

Make any attempt to damage computer equipment or software

Use the internet for any illegal activity including violating the copyright or other rights of third parties

Intentionally transmit or access computer viruses or similar software

Engage in any activity which is harassing, incites hatred or incites violence

Make any attempt to access material of a pornographic or obscene nature.
Public Users Security
Users should be aware that the Internet is not a secure medium and that third parties may be able to obtain information regarding the users' activities. However, West Dunbartonshire Council will not reveal information on the use of specific Internet resources by members of the public except as required by law or necessary for the proper operation of the law.
Compliance
West Dunbartonshire Council reserves the right to take appropriate action to ensure compliance with this policy.
Bookings
Bookings may be made in person, via the internet, or by telephone, fax, e-mail or letter. Each session is free of charge and may last for a maximum of one hour.
Printing
Users can print pages from the Internet. This service is chargeable and all printing charges will be clearly advertised. Users must use paper supplied by the West Dunbartonshire Council.
Filtering
Filtering is the term used to describe the use of software which restricts access to material on the Internet. Such software is used to restrict access to sites that contain potentially offensive material such as pornography. The user must agree to the use of filtering software by West Dunbartonshire Council and accept the restrictions to Internet access placed by it.
Requests to view blocked sites should be directed to staff.
Amendments to this Policy
West Dunbartonshire Council reserves the right to amend this policy as and when required.
