Brief History
With the establishment of Glasgow overspill housing at Ladyton on the slopes above Bonhill, and the prospect of further joined developments, the need for public library provision for a growing population was soon addressed by Dunbartonshire County Council. A purpose-built library was opened at Ladyton in June 1973 in a central position near the shops. The library was administered on behalf of Dumbarton District Council from 1975 to 1996, when it became the responsibility of West Dunbartonshire Council on local government reorganisation.
