Brief History
After the development of the large Council housing scheme at Haldane and other housing developments (private and local authority) in Balloch and Jamestown, the need for public library provision for a growing population in the area was addressed by Dunbartonshire County Council in the last year of its existence. A purpose-built library, designed along the same lines as the new Ladyton Library, was opened in November 1974 at Carrochan Road. The library was administered on behalf of Dumbarton District Council from 1975 to 1996, when it became the responsibility of West Dunbartonshire Council on local government reorganisation.
