The Raids - continued
The worst devastation was to housing. Out of a total of 12,000 houses only 7 suffered no damage, with 4,500 requiring total demolition and a further 4,000 seriously affected.
Whole areas such as the "Holy City" (Radnor Park) were totally destroyed, as were several public buildings, many of which were serving as Wardens' Posts, First Aid Posts etc. Schools and churches were destroyed or rendered unusable.
The Public Library took a direct hit, although the Control Centre in the basement was only slightly damaged.
