Section 5 (Part 3)
In spite of the damage to premises and local infrastructure, and the fact that many people had to travel long distances from their Rest Centres and billets, production, in varying degrees, was quickly resumed.
By the 1st April most firms were on the way to previous production levels; John Brown's was almost back to normal, the Royal Ordnance Factory was returning to normal and the Singer factory was producing 50% of its war production - but no sewing machines. Due to the severity of the damage, Aitchison Blair in Stanford Street was the only major firm which had nowhere reached previous levels.
